Kuranda currently without power
Approximately 1,412 residents are currently without power after a large tree fell, causing powerlines to fall this morning on Kuranda Crescent, Kuranda.
Residence in Kuranda, Myola, Oak Forest, Saddle Mountain, Mantaka, Kowrowa and Russett Park are affected.
Police are urging residents to stay clear of the fallen lines as Ergon Energy workers begin repairs to restore power.
The tree fell across the street and onto the lines at around 8:30am.
Council workers are on scene and will begin clearing the tree once Ergon declares the scene safe.
With the cyclone season drawing closer, this is a timely reminder to make plans to remove old or rotten trees that may impact energy infrastructure.
