Morning tea with a star at Work Safe Forum
Along with many other residents and business people in Mackay, I attended to the CQ University Sydney Street campus this morning to hear Libby Trickett address the Work Safe Forum on her personal struggles with mental health issues during her career. Libby’s story was very sincere, brutally honest and as a result exceptionally well received.
Libby had time to field a number of questions from those in attendance before a very tight airport schedule meant she had to depart – the day did go on however, as the picture below illustrates (Jazz hands seem to be the go in the two pictures above and below).
After hearing Libby’s presentation the bar was set far and above any height I could reach, but try I did. The topic which I presented on was sexual harassment in the workplace (specifically rural locations). Relevant legal definitions were touched on as quickly as possible before statistics on sexual harassment for women in the bush were produced – a real eye opener for many. Areas of police involvement and criminal aspects in sexual harassment were also explained, for example sexual assaults, stalking etc.
We were very grateful to receive permission from Dr Skye Saunders of the Australian National University College of Law to use her production “Grace Under Fire” in our presentation – reflecting a personal story of sexual harassment in the workplace endured by a young Australian.
A huge thank you to Leanne Williams, the Campus Coordinator for the CQ University in Mackay for the invitation to attend and participate – we hope that our presentation added to the forum.
Many thanks also to Libby Trickett – hopefully you enjoyed your brief stay here in Mackay.
