Motor bikers speak up loud and clear for road safety
Seventy-four motor bikes and their riders joined Mackay District Officer, Superintendent McNab and the Mackay Mayor, Mr Greg Williamson on a motor bike ride on Sunday morning.
The cavalcade was led off by Road Policing Unit’s Sergeant Simon Robinson from Northern Beaches Police Station and wound its way to Mirani, deep in the Pioneer Valley where Senior Constable James Dolby was manning the Neighbourhood Watch BBQ trailer full of sizzling sausages.
Ms Kate Hardwick from Mackay spoke about the recent loss of her father in a motorbike crash on a district road and how it has impacted her family and the community. She urged all motorists to “Take a second look, take a longer look, it could save a life“. She said that this Father’s Day will take on a new meaning this year. There was hardly a dry eye among those who were listening.
If there was one message from all the activities that I have been involved in this week during Queensland Road Safety Week in Mackay is we all have to share the road and make sure everyone gets to where they are going.
Remember, if we remove the behaviours we call the Fatal Five we will almost completely remove the chance of a fatal or injury crash. If I could give you a five step formula that would prevent you or your loved one ever getting cancer I’m in no doubt you would all be listening. Road safety and the Fatal Five is the formula to prevent tragedy on our roads.
