Music positively engaging youth Palm Beach
In 2009 local community member Ian Grace approached Palm Beach Police with an idea to start a music program for young people.
Senior Constable Kurt Foessel from the Elanora Police Beat immediately joined the committee and has been a part of it since the beginning now in its eighth year. The free program offers young people the opportunity to take part in 16 weeks of mentoring from some highly qualified and experienced musicians. At the end of the 16 weeks, they play a live performance at the Currumbin RSL.
The program continues to grow and has been a great community effort. 36 young people joined the program this year and we have seen some great talent but mostly some great efforts. Senior Constable Kurt Foessel who does a lot of the background work with committee meetings and managing the programs bus is grateful for any opportunity to engage young people in a positive way. Community and business support has been amazing as well as the support from our local politicians at all levels.
Our major sponsor Roland Music has continued to support the program with donations of musical equipment and special items for raffles which help us to fund the next program. We look forward to another great program in 2018.
