Oonoonba State School share the road

Oonoonba State School share the road

Students from Oonoonba State School were recognised for their good behaviour whilst using the pedestrian crossing to start school today. Road Safety Week has a number of messages to educate all persons that use roads or footpaths in our community.

The students were excited to know that they would be receiving a sticker from Senior Constable Yvette Starr as they crossed safely and correctly whilst using the crossing. Officers from Strand Beat joined in providing the message of road safety by attending on their police bicycles, issuing stickers to students riding safely to school and wearing their bike helmets.

Students were very courteous by saying ‘good morning’ to the lollipop ladies that control these school crossings. They walked calmly and quickly to get to the other side to collect their sticker. Students that rode their bike or scooters dismounted prior to using the crossing, and now look a little different with the fluro sticker being attached to their form of transport.

A colouring competition was held, with a lot of creativity for Road Safety Week, Sharing the Roads. The students added their own special touch to the pictures with added signage or traffic lights and beautiful bright colours. The three winners were announced and received a gift of goodies as their prizes to continue with the important message of sharing the road.
