Op Summer Charlie continues to prove successful in the Townsville CBD
On September 26, 2016, The Townsville Community Police Beat (TCPB) commenced Operation Summer Charlie. This operation is tasked with reducing good order and liquor act offences in the Townsville CBD and surrounding parks, with officers from the TCPB utilising trailbikes, mountain bikes, ATV, golf buggy and standard police vehicles whilst performing Operation Summer Charlie Patrols.
Since July 1 2017, working as a part of Operation Summer Charlie, police from the Townsville Community Police Beat have charged offenders on 58 occasions for public nuisance offences, placed 313 other associated charges against offenders, disposed of 2415 litres of alcohol (which was to be consumed in public), and conducted 490 hours of foot patrols within the Townsville CBD area.
This operation has been identified as having a direct effect on reducing the amount of anti-social behaviour in the inner city areas, and will continue in its current format into the foreseeable future.
