Police car? What police car? Speeding incident in Moranbah

Police cars stand out from the crowd

Police cars are designed to stand out from the crowd – some visual clues exist which make this happen.

At 6:19pm on October 24 officers from the Moranbah road policing unit were performing speed enforcement patrols on the Peak Downs Highway in their own marked police car. It’s alleged that they were unexpectedly overtaken by a Subaru xv hatch-back travelling in the same direction – the subaru’s speed was checked as being 147km/hr in a 100 zone.

The driver, a 25-year-old Moranbah woman was issued with a $1177 on the spot fine for travelling in excess of 40 kilometres above the posted speed limit. Under different circumstances the outcome could have been much worse.

It pays to drive as though a marked police car is right there beside you at all times – one of those bright, shiney hard to miss police cars that is. Please monitor your speeds.
