Police prepare for Riverfire 2017
Police are reminding everyone to plan ahead as final preparations are made for tonight’s Riverfire, one of the largest annual events in Brisbane.
Major road and bridge closures come into effect from Saturday afternoon ahead of the major fireworks display along the Brisbane River at 7pm.
Acting Superintendent David Jackman said approximately 500,000 people were expected to line the riverbanks for tonight’s celebrations.
“Extra police will be on patrol throughout Brisbane City and lookout areas as we try to ensure everyone has an enjoyable but safe experience at Riverfire,” Acting Superintendent Jackman said.
“We are urging everyone coming into the City on Saturday to allow extra travel time, consider the implication of road closures and be patient.
“Riverfire spectators should also drink responsibly and only within designated areas.”
South Bank Parklands will be fenced off and alcohol consumption is not permitted within the Parklands. Random bag checks will be conducted within the precinct throughout the day.
Spectators are reminded that no sharp objects, glass, or opened bottles or cans will be permitted inside the parklands.
Police also remind residents and visitors not to leave any bags unattended in any public space.
