Queensland Racing Crime Squad arrest

A man has been charged following a protracted investigation into alleged betting
offences over a 10-year- period by the Queensland Racing Crime Squad.

Detectives attached to the Queensland Racing Crime Squad working in conjunction
with the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission and Integrity Regulatory Unit
Stewards concluded the protracted investigation today in relation to a harness
racing participant.

A 61-year- old man from The Gap has been charged and released on bail and will
appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 13 November 2017 in relation to
offences against the ‘Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act
2006’.

The offences are alleged to have been committed over a 10-year period.

Police will allege that the man opened an on line betting account in a false name to
place bets on harness racing events in Queensland and Western Australia.

There is no suggestion that these offences are in anyway linked to terrorism.

Since its inception on July 1, 2016 the QRCS has been embedded with the
Queensland Racing Integrity Commission at Albion and is tasked with investigating
serious animal cruelty, and major and organised crime across all three codes of
racing.
