Road Safety Week is GO in Far North District!

Road Safety Week is GO in Far North District!

Road Safety Week officially launched today with police asking to community to begin the week by committing to the improvement of just one driving behaviour each day.

The week kicks off with Monday’s focus being on speed, or more correctly, excessive speed.

Speed remains one of our biggest issues with more than 1,000 people either killed or injured in crashes where excessive speed was a factor.

For this reason, there will be a focus to remind all drivers and riders to check their speed, drive or ride to the prevailing conditions, and stay within the limits.

Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Buckman chats with reporters at today’s launch

Officers from the Cairns Road Policing Unit were highly visible out and about today to push the road safety message.

Officer In Ccharge, Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Buckman said that every available officer would be out and about on the roads this week to monitor driver behaviour.

“Most people do the right thing on the roads but there is just that minority of people who are flaunting the rules and they’re the people that we’re targeting,” Acting Senior Sergeant Buckman said.

Road Safety Week will have a different theme each day in order for all drivers to think about how they can improve their driving habits and make themselves safer drivers.
