Robbery charges, Southport
Detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit have arrested two teenagers following a series of alleged robberies in Southport overnight.
Around 11.40pm a 63-year-old Southport man was walking along Lawson Street when he was allegedly assaulted and robbed of his mobile phone. He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment to serious facial injuries.
Around 1.20am a 26-year-old Molendinar man was in a carpark off Lawson Street when he was assaulted and punched by offenders who demanded property from the man. He handed over his phone and a jacket which contained car keys. The group then stole the man’s vehicle.
Around 1.40am a 19-year-old Southport man was assaulted on the corner of Lawson and High streets and his phone and wallet stolen.
Around 1.50am a man reported to police he had been assaulted and robbed of his phone, wallet, back park and laptop while on Scarborough Street.
Shortly after police patrolling the area noticed the stolen Holden Commodore allegedly travelling a high speed in the vicinity of Garden Street and Queen Street. The vehicle continued at speed and lost control in Lenneberg Street with occupants fleeing the vehicle.
Police attended and conducted a search of the area and arrested a boy and a girl.
It is alleged a number of the property that was stolen was located in the vehicle.
A 15-year-old boy was charged with four counts of robbery with violence and in company and one count each of serious assault and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
A 13-year-old girl was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Investigations are continuing.
