Serious assault, Earlville
Police have charged a woman following the alleged assault of an elderly woman at Earlville this morning.
Around 10.15am, it will be alleged security from a Mulgrave Road shopping centre directed the 34-year-old woman to leave following a disturbance.
It will then be alleged the woman re-entered the shopping centre before approaching an 86-year-old man, not known to her, sitting on a seat and punching him to the side of the face.
She fled the scene on foot after being confronted by a member of the man’s family but was arrested nearby by an off-duty police officer who witnesses the alleged assault.
A 34-year-old woman has been charged with one count each of serious assault, obstruct police, trespass and breach of bail.
She is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow.
