Speeding through Eubenangee roadworks
Today’s theme for Queensland Road Safety Week is speeding and we want to remind motorists speed remains one of our biggest issues in Queensland with more than 1,000 people either killed or injured in crashes where speed was a factor in Queensland every year.
Innisfail Road Policing Unit were conducting traffic enforcement with a large focus on speeding through the roadworks at Eubenangee over the weekend and this will continue throughout this week.
As a result a number of people were detected travelling at up to 20km/h over the signed speed limit.
Sergeant Jason McCoomb said it is rather disappointing the number of people who are exceeding the speed limit through that area.
The roads are still under construction and not adequately marked. People need to slow down and observe the speed limit,” Sergeant McCoomb said.
“We have an obligation to the safety of the road workers and other vehicles sharing the road.”
During the enforcement along the Bruce Highway at Eubenangee, officers allegedly detected five drivers travelling more than 13km/h over the speed limit on Sunday and another six this morning and they were issued with infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit through the roadworks.
For this reason, officers will remain focused on this area and want to remind all drivers and riders to check their speed, drive/ride to the conditions, and stay within the limits.
Put the brakes on speeding
• Regularly check your speed when you’re driving.
• If weather and/or road conditions are poor, slow down.
• Don’t follow too closely – leave a two second gap.
