Surfers Paradise Police working with local businesses to prevent petrol drive-offs
Surfers Paradise Police are working with local service station operators in a bid to reduce petrol drive offs. Police are asking drivers to take a few simple steps to assist before operators release the bowser to deliver petrol.

We are asking that drivers, before reaching for the bowser, follow four simple steps:
- Turn off the vehicle;
- Lock the car;
- Remove helmets/hats/hoodies; and
- Show yourself.
By following these easy steps, it is hoped that stealing from petrol stations will reduce significantly. The flow on affect will allow police to spend more time working proactively to reduce crime.
To assist with stealing offences, police are asking operators to look for customers who:
- Appear anxious;
- Have no identification;
- Appear in a hurry;
- Ask to split the transaction into separate amounts under $100;
- Request transactions be entered manually;
- Report all suspicious matters to Policelink on 131 444.
