Drink driving charge, Ayr

A man has been charged following a traffic crash on Macmillan Street, Ayr yesterday afternoon.

Police will allege that around 5.15pm, a woman reversed a car through the back fence of a property, colliding with a gas cylinder in a paint shop on Queen Street.

A man has then allegedly entered the car and attempted to drive the vehicle forward away from the crash.

The female driver was transported to hospital with breathing difficulties.

Police will allege that the male driver recorded a positive roadside breath test and was transported to the Ayr Police Station for further testing, where he recorded a positive blood alcohol concentration of 0.266 per cent.

A 61-year-old man has been issued to appear in the Ayr Magistrates Court on August 30.

Investigations are continuing.

Suspicious fire, North Ward

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a set of units on Carter Street, North Ward.

At about 2:30pm, police received information that a block of units were ablaze. Multiple fire crews attended and extinguished the fire. Occupants of the units were evacuated to safety.

One of the units in the complex received extensive damage as a result.

A crime scene has been established and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
