Update charges: Wilful damage, deprivation of liberty and serious assault police – Surfers Paradise
Gold Coast Police have charged a man following an incident in Surfers Paradise early this morning where a woman was allegedly threatened with knives and held against her will.
It will be alleged around 12:30am, a man at attempted to flood the inside of a Hanlan Street residence as well as set fire to a number of items in a room.
It will be further alleged that when a woman known to the man attempted to leave the property she was threatened by him with knives and forcibly prevented from leaving.
Police attended the scene a short time later and as they attempted to restrain the man he allegedly became violent and spat at officers.
The woman and officers were not physically injured during the incident.
A 29-year-old Moorooka man has been charged with three counts of serious assault police by biting/spitting, and one count each of deprivation of liberty and wilful damage – domestic violence offence.
He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on August 28.
