Vehicle watch – 51 cars stolen this month
Now here is a weird request, I want you to pause for a moment and think like a criminal.
Now picture yourself standing on the kerb at the front of your house. What can you see?
Car in the driveway, items in the front yard, front door, house windows…
As an offender, what items can you easily steal and what can you get into quickly?
There may be a bike on the front patio, laptop and wallet in plain view in a car that is unlocked, maybe an open front door or window to your house.
Ok, as the offender now, you have gained easy access to your home, straight away what can you see?
Mobile phone, wallet and car keys on the kitchen bench.
What can you see?
Now how long will it take you to grab those items and get back to the car that you saw sitting in the driveway?
The answer is seconds and sadly this scenario is all too familiar in the Cairns Region. Everyday residents are waking to find that entry had been gained to their home and that their precious vehicle and other property have been stolen.
In many cases, vehicle owners are unaware that their car has been stolen whilst they are at home until they go to use the vehicle or they are contacted by police.
It doesn’t take long for a criminal to enter your home and take your precious items, it also doesn’t take long for YOU to remove valuables from your car, lock your car and home and secure you car keys and other valuable items.
We don’t want you to be the next person we visit to take a stolen vehicle and burglary report from.
Police are seeking public assistance to help recover a number of vehicles stolen over the past 30 days.
